Problem Statement

Consider the polynomial p(x)=x4+ax3+bx2+cx+dp(x) = x^4 + ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d. It is given that p(x)p(x) has its only root at x=rx = r i.e p(r)=0p(r) = 0. <spanclass=latexbold>(a)(a) Show that if a,b,c,da, b, c, d are rational then rr is rational. <spanclass=latexbold>(b)(b) Show that if a,b,c,da, b, c, d are integers then rr is an integer. (Hint: Consider the roots of p(x)p'(x) )
